TECC Lego Team places in BOOMTOWN Build Project
TECC Lego Team places in BOOMTOWN Build Project
TECC staff report
Friday, December 13, 2019

Tecumseh Early Childhood Center has actively participated in LEGO League for three years. This year's project was the BOOMTOWN Build where seven kindergarten students learned all about what it takes to construct a building.

Students began the challenge by learning about the job functions of architects and engineers. They also discovered that buildings needed to be durable, accessible to all people, and environmentally friendly.  Once this knowledge was absorbed it was time to begin building.

The TECC team called Creative Cranes voted to design and build a school which was perfect since team members were themselves, enjoying the benefits of a new school building.  The students made sure to include a ramp and a handicap door to help make the building accessible to people with disabilities. They included a small lake on the property along with solar panels and wind turbines to help make the building environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

During the competition students built and programmed a working crane using an iPad and the WeDo 2.0 computer program. The BOOMTOWN Build project ended with a competition at Gordon Cooper Technology Center on November 1. Creative Cranes got to present to a panel of judges and was awarded a medal and a trophy for Best Model and Design.

Students were very excited with their award and are eager to learn more about technology and design.
