Melissa Poole, THS Senior Counselor has announced dates for the upcoming College and Career Fairs. Both presentations will be September 13 and are open to all area seniors. The College Fair will be from 9-10 am at Firelake Arena and Career Fair will be 1-2 pm at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.

Seniors are only allowed to register for one event and should sign up on the tours bulletin board located outside the counseling suite. Transportation will be provided but you must sign up in advance to guarantee the absence excused for school activity.

Numerous college recruiting representatives will be on hand in the morning session to answer questions about degree fields, ACT cut scores, and financial aid offerings for colleges in Oklahoma. Many of those colleges offer to waive registration fees if you sign up on that day to attend their school.  Registration fees, which are non-refundable are often a financial obstacle for seniors who aren't sure which college is right for them so they must apply to several. According to Poole, college fair is a good time to get a face to face meeting with a university official to ask questions about how to get that coveted letter of acceptance from the college a student really wants to attend.

As an afternoon alternative, career professionals from many areas of the trade and technical sectors will be on site at the career fair to answer questions about education and certifications required as well as give information about earning potential for many professions.

"Seniors usually have a general idea of what they want to do upon graduation but these small conventions help them meet people who are actually doing the job that they are desiring to do someday," added Poole. "They can get a better idea actually talking to a career professional than they can just doing a research project on a career."
